The lagoon of Salinas covers more than 6000 hectares; the shallow salt waters are surrounded by the beautiful volcanoes of Pichupichu and Ubinas. This lagoon is considered one of the most beautiful landscape sceneries in Peru. As well as the beautiful scenery you will experience the local wildlife the area inhabits such as Vicuñas, Alpacas, Foxes and a selection of migratory birds including the three types of flamingos:
- Phoenicopteras chilensis (chiliean Flamingo)
- Phoenicopteras andinas (large Andean parihuana)
- Phoenicopteras jamesi (Andean girl-parihuana)
You will be collected from your hotel at 8am by one of our experienced tour guides. The drive to Salinas located 3000 meters above sea level will take approximately 3hours. Along the way the tour will stop at Chiguata village which offers a beautiful picture stop of the pre-Inca terraces. Upon arrival at the lagoon, you will have plenty of time to explore and then have the chance to enjoy your boxed lunch. You will also have the opportunity to visit the salt town; the location where the locals work and process the Andean salt using the techniques of their ancestors.
