The Sacred Valley tour is one of the most popular tours in the region. The Sacred Valley of the Incas was a crucial area for the Inca Empire and it functioned as both an agricultural, spiritual and political centre for them. Throughout its length there are many Inca and Pre-Inca sites that can be found. The Sacred Valley tour visits the 2 main sites, Pisac and Ollantaytambo. A full day tour will help you appreciate the fine works and craftsmanship that the Incas produced as well as see the beautiful scenery of the Sacred Valley. Many tourists opt to do this tour just before their visit to Machu Picchu as you can choose to finish in Ollantaytambo from where you take the train on to Aguas Calientes (the town at the base of Machu Picchu).

Itinerary

You will be picked up at 8:15 am from your hotel in Cusco. The full day excursion to the Urubamba Valley will include: A visit to the colourful Indian market in Pisac where a mixture of colours and traditions will be appreciated. Pisac is located to the entrance of the Sacred Valley. Most people visit Pisac to see the market on Sunday, however there are also smaller markets on both Tuesday and Thursday. Pisac is a pretty village and has plenty of small handcraft shops and is worth a visit on any day of the week as is a good place to buy the local ceramics including huge and varied collections of hand-painted multi-coloured beads. You will enjoy lunch in a typical restaurant in Urubamba.

Following lunch the tour will continue to Ollantaytambo, an attractive little town located at the western end of the Sacred Valley. It’s considered the oldest town which is continuously well preserved by Peruvian traditions and is located at the foot of some spectacular Inca ruins which protects the strategic entrance to the lower Urubamba Valley. The narrow streets of Ollantaytambo, along with their channels that have not varied from the Inca time, evoke their ancestral inheritance..

You will then finish the tour by visiting Chinchero, a small Andean Indian village located high up on the windswept plains of Anta at 3762m about 30km from Cusco. It is believed to be the mythical birthplace of the rainbow. Its major claim to tourism is its colourful Sunday market which is much less tourist-orientated than the market at Pisac.

Your tour will end with you returning to Cusco at approximately 6:30pm.
