The Inca Trail is a once in a lifetime experience and an adventure you will never forget. The wonder of Machupicchu is one of the greatest bucket list ideas that is believed to change lives. It will provide you with astonishing jaw-dropping views scenery, along with the Inca ruins and the Peruvian Andes.

You will experience breathtaking moments on the Inca Trail’s four-day trek, especially when you reach the Sun Gate and catch your first glimpse of the lost city of the Incas.

Itinerary

Day 1: Cusco Inca Trail – Chilca –Wayllabamba (3,300m)

Hiking Distance: 12km, 5-6 Hours

You will be collected from your hotel at 7am and head to the Sacred Valley of the Incas; here you will meet with your Quechua porters. From Chilca (2765).We will hike along the bank of the turbulent Vilcanota River, with magnificent views to Nevado Veronica (5900m / 19000ft). All camp gear is carried by our porters, leaving you free to walk with only a light pack with essentials for the day’s hike. Our first nights camping will be spent in the small village of Wayllabamba (2950) Km/6 hours trek. (Lunch, Dinner)

Day 2: Wayllamba – Pacaymayu (3650m)

Hiking Distance: 11km, 6-8 Hours

Day 2 is the most demanding day of the Ink Trail. You will climb through the magical polylepis forest to the high camp at Pacaymayu. The highest part of the trail “Warmiwañusca” offers breathtaking views. From here you descend into the valley of the Pacamayo River, where the camp for the second night is set up.

Day 3: Paqaymayu – Wiñaywayna (2650)

Hiking Distance:16km, 8 Hours

This day you will hike through the most important archeological ruins in the trail, such as Sayaqmarca, Phuyupatamarca (3,600 m) The second part of this trail offers astonishing views of the Vilcabamba range and its snow-capped mountains. The trail descends into cloud forest and to the impressive ruin of Sayacmarca, then follows the side of the mountain, passing through an Inca tunnel. After entering the ruins of Phuyupatamarca with its fine ritual baths, the trail rapidly descends Inca steps to Wiñay Wayna. Following the beautiful sunset we will make our way to our camp for the evening.

Day 4: Wiñayhuayna – Machupicchu ( 2350)

This day will live with your forever. The checkpoint at Wiñay Wayna opens at 5.30am, so you usually arrive at the sun gate at approximately 7 - 7.30am, where you will catch the first glimpse of Machupicchu. The trail down to the ruins themselves takes about half an hour and a guided visit of Machu Picchu is included. You then have the rest of the morning to further explore the ruins or the surrounding area at your leisure, before catching an afternoon train back to Cusco, estimated arrival time to Cusco is 20:00 hours.

Information about the Food

  • All meals are prepared from “fresh” products when possible, using as few canned and packaged good as we can.
  •  Morning wake up black tea.  This is provide each morning from the time you wake up.
  • Breakfast offers varied hot meals: One of these (not your choice is offered) Eggs, oatmeal, French toast, Pancakes, as main course. Every day the following is also offered : Toast, jam, margarine, coffee, tea (black  and herbal) , hot chocolate, powdered milk, sugar.
  • Snacks: Every trek day you will be provided with a snack bag consisting of the following: 1 fresh fruit (orange, mandarin and apple), a chocolate bar, few brazil nuts, hard candies. Cold beverage powder like tang/koolaid. This can be consumed at your convenience.
  • Lunches: Each day a cold lunch is served at a rest location, it includes the following: Chicken escabeche, tomato and palta(avocado), sandwiches, huancaina potatoes salad, egg noodle salad, tuna salad or similar. There is always bread, hot coca tea, and some cheese and/or fresh vegetables to go with this.
  • Afternoon tea: Upon arrival to camp, tea is served in the dinning tent, hot tea black and herbal, mild powder, and  a snack like pop-corn, fresh toasted cancha, or tea cookies are offered.
  • Dinner: Always consists of three courses: A hot soup, which is often a meal in itself (for example cream spinach), a main course (for example chicken Marengo) and dessert (banana flambeau). Also a glass of wine or cocktail is offered during or before dinner. Hot beverage, tea (black or herbal), after.

2-WATER:

  • We provide one bottle of water per person for the first two days. We also send out a katydin water filter for clean, fresh, safe drinking water. There are many streams from which fresh water can be taken into water bottles and treated with iodine or similar which clients should bring with them. In camps boiled water is available in limited quantities for putting into water bottles and drinking later.
  • We provide plastic basins, with warm water, for each tent at morning wake up call. There is disinfected water provide near the dinning tent with disinfectant soap so that people may wash their hands before meals and after using the bathroom during normal camp hours.
  • We provide bathroom tents, male and female when larger groups each of which has toilet stool included.

Tips

Tips: 

There are no hot showers along the trail except at the final campsite, but every morning and night you will be provided with a bowl of hot water to wash with. The porters also carry a portable chemical toilet which they put up in a tent at the lunch and camping stops. There are also a number of basic toilets along the Inca Trail provided by the National Institute of Culture. The guides carry basic first aid supplies, but as you will be in remote mountain areas, more advanced medical facilities are not available.

Porter will be carrying a backpack of 20 kg per participant, you will need to bring your own sleeping bag and sleeping sheet with you, but please note that you can hire a sleeping bag in Cusco for approximately US$20 for the duration of the trek.

Always take a spare photocopy the main pages of your passport.

Please use this checklist as a guide when packing for your holiday.

  • Small first-aid kit

  • Watch/alarm clock and torch/flashlight (and spare batteries)
  • Electrical adapter plug (there isn’t plugs on this trek until the last day)
  • Toiletries/roll of toilet paper/travel wipes/ tissues
  • Insect repellent
  • Sunscreen, lip balm, sunhat and sunglasses
  • Earplugs and eye mask (for light sleepers)
  • Refillable water bottle
  • Warm clothes - when travelling in cooler climates
  • Wind and waterproof rain jacket
  • Comfortable and sturdy walking shoes with good walking socks
  • Camera and spare film (or recharge for digital cameras)
  • Binoculars

In addition to those items suggested in our packing checklist above, we suggest you consider the following:

  • strong, waterproof boots or hiking shoes, properly worn in for trekking
  • warm socks
  • snacks for yourself
  • comfortable, lightweight shoes to wear around camp in the evenings
  • wind and waterproof rain jacket
  • a couple of mid-layer shirts/pullovers
  • 2 pairs of thermal long-sleeved singlets and long johns (quick drying)
  • warm trekking pants
  • a pair of water-proof/windproof over-pants
  • warm gloves and warm hat or beanie
  • wash kit and small towel
  • swimwear for the hot springs at Aguas Calientes (time permitting)
